ROYAL MUSICAL SOCIETY.

At 'a full meeting of the committee, held on Friday last, the chairman (Mr T. Andrews) reported that - satisfactory arrangements had been made with Mr A. G. Thomson, who. ia on the staff of the Technical College, to conduct the Society for the remainder of the current year. Mr Thomson conducted at the last two rehearsals, which were very satisfactory, and the concert -on June 13th, when "Hiawatha" ia to be given, should prove very successful under his baton. Letters from Mr Dixon, L.R.A.M., A.H.C.M., of Ipswich, England, were received, and after a brief discussion it was uranimously decided to appoint Mr Dixon as conductor of • the Society for the 1929 siason, although Mr Dixon expressed his willingness to commence in October next. A programme >-ent by Mr Dixon was shown to the members of the committee, in which the Ipswich Choral Society joined forces with Mr Johii Coates, and the concert accoiding to Press reports receive, was a musical triumph. Mr R. A. Home waited upon the committee with reference io the choral portion of .the Canterbury Jubilee Ode, composed by Mr Home and arranged for full orchestra by Mr Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.O. It was unanimously agreed that the Society should give the Jubilje Committeo any assistance that they may require in the choral portion of the ode. The chairman reported the engagement of soloists for "Hiawatha," Mr Hubert Carter, New Zealand's leading tenor and late of Albert Hall, London, Madame Winnie Fiascr, soprano, and Mr Chas. Clavkson, j baBS, a trio of soloists that would be difficult to surpass in New Zealand.
