LIFE-SAVING.
MEETING OF N.Z. COUNCIL. At the monthly meeting of the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life-Saving Society, there were present: Messrs G. E. Billson (Wanganui) in the chair. H. J. Ballin (Taranaki), F. J. Glackin (Otago), and F- J. Scott (Auckland). The Canterbury Head Centre wrote stating its intention of issuine five supplementary awards—bar to bronze medallion, bar to award of merit, bar- to surf medallion, surf instructor's certificate—and asking for the Council's approval. It waß decided that if the centres agreed the swards be adopted for all New Zealand. The DroDosa) to perpetuate the memory of the founder of the Sooiety, Mr William Henry, by means of a Henry memorial trcphv. was approved, and it was decided to hold the matter over pendine receipt of the views of the various head centies. The Auckland Head Centre wrote asking the Council to approach the Education Department, with a view to having the lifesaving awards won by teachers recoenised by the Department, and also that instruction in life-saving should form part of the work of the physical instructors employed bv the Department. It was decided that the primary school breaststroke certificate shall count half a point for-the Wigram Shield for this year, and that the matter coma up again for review at the next annual meeting. It was agreed to have the medals for the four-man championship made in New Zealand. A letter was received from the Dunedin secretary, stating that the champion beltman for 1928 is C. Atkinson, not P. Lindsay, as previously stated.
