PARKING OF CARS.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir—Although our City Councillors delight in making by-laws on a mass production basis, yet it seems that there their enthusiasm ends, and they fail to carry them into effect. I rerer more particularly to that by now wellworn topic-the parking of motor-cars outside dance halls and other places of amusement. The by-laws relating thereto have now supposedly come into force, yet we still see rows of cars narked outside the halls, in direct contravention of the by-laws, until tue earlv hours of the morning, when they signal their departure by waking all
the residents in the neighbourhood. In Gloucester street west, this is particularly noticeable, and it .is a positive disgrace that in such a high I J rated area the Council should allow the residents to be inflicted with such a medley of noises when some entertainment closes. I am not in any Way prejudiced against dancing and otoer amusements; in fact, I enjoy them as much as anybody, but I do object to the- noises made, perhaps quite unwittingly, bv their patrons in the early hours of the morning. Surely the Conncil through its traffic staff can enforce its own Vlaws and see that these cars are parked m some business area where nobody would be disturbed by the slamming of doors the starting of engines, and all the other noises that announce the end or the party. , What are our traffic inspectors doing? It certainly does not take a great deal of brilliance to catch a car that is wrongly parked and the revenue to be obtained would he far easier and greater than that obtained by setting traps for innocent motorists. Ur is it perhaps that traffic inspectors are not allowed out so late at night.'— Yours, etc., A 'mSHDENT.
In a letter in The Pbess yesterday about Idris road, signed "K. 8.," the transposition of a line mangled a sentence which should have read: "AH the Fendalton part is-well channelled, and, I believe, free of sickness. "While on the subject of Idris road, it is reported," etc.
