THE ART GALLERY SITE.

TO THE EDITOR 07 THE PRESS. Sir,—ls it because the ground can Lc obtained free of charge that the Art Gallery is to bo erected in such an unsuitable place as the back of the Museum? If that is the reason, surely there are enough of the old students who started with the School or Art to. prevent this. Will they not band together to do something? Might I respectfully suggest that one of the old school's first lady students should take a lead? I know that there are still two of them who are active ™™ e ™ of the Art Society. I think that it they would only set the pendulum swinging there would be many wdhng hand* to Keep it. on the movs and either by canvassing or some other means we could soon raise f.unds enough to purchase a section of land which woull be worthy of the beautiful gallery which Mr McDougall has fMfflT OT'IHE?OLD SCHOOL.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir—l wish to add my protest against the placing of the Art Gallery in that dark, dank corner behind the Museum. As Mr Menzies Gibt-pointed out a short time ago, the best position of all is the big lawn at the entrance to the Gardens, and such a position would be enhanced by a work of art such as .the Art Gallery. Failin B that postion, it might be built whVeT those hideous ok? pine trees sland on the hill. •It is high time those trees were cut down anyway lo bury Mr McDougall's gift behind the Museum is simply throwing it back in his face and is quite enough to prevent anv citizen in future from the folly of making a gift to Chnstchurch. -Yours, etc., 0F ART>
