ATHLETICS.

CANTERBURY CENTRE. The Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Union met last evening. Mr W. 0. Flewellyn presided. Letters of appreciation for hospitality shown visiting athletes to the New Zealand championships were received from the Otago, Wanganui and Taranaki, and Gisborne Centres. The Rotherham Club's application to hold a meeting in the Domain on March 17th was approved after some discussion in committee. The programme for three evening meetings at Lancaster Park on January'2sth, February Ist, and February'Bth was approved. The Ashburton Club was granted permission to hold its annual meeting on February ISth. The Akaroa Club was granted permission to hold a meeting on Easter Saturday, April 7th, and the programme approved, the club to be invited to affiliate with the Centre.

The Otago Centre wrote asking thet Grose should make the journey to Dunedin, and a team of relay runners, to take part in an evening meeting on February 4th. The Centre decided to accept the invitation. The Centre decided to hold meetings, subject to English Park Stadium being available, on February 15th and 25th, at which' J. Standen, the Australian cyclist, who has been selected for the Olympic team, will compete. The Canterbury championships will be held to coincide with his visit.

ST. PATRICK'S SPORTS. A meeting of the St. Patrick's Sports Association was held last evening, the newlyelected president (Mr P. J. Smyth) presiding. It wis decided to hold tho annual sports meeting at English Park on March 10th, the programme to be similar to that of last year, with amateur, primary school, secondary school open running, and cash cycling events.
