FIRES.
HOTEL DESTROYED. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAU.) DARGAVDLLE. January lb. At four o'clock this morning, th* Tokatoka Hotel, a two-storeyed building and one of the oldest landmarks in the district, was, with the whole of its contents, totally destroyed by fire. It was occupied by Mr H. Morton, who, with his family, just had time to escape in their sleeping attire. The only thing which was saved was a cash box. The building was owned by an Auckland brewery firm. The amount of the insurances is not known here.
RESIDENCE BURNED DOWN. (rams issocuTioa tblsobau.) AUCKLAND, January 19. A five-roomed house, owMed by 8« Bercich, at Penrose, \vas_ destroyed last night through a gorse fire.
HOUSE GUTTED. (PRMS 4BSOCUTIOH MLIOBiM.) OHAKUNE, January 19. The railway house at Rangataua was completely gutted early this morning. Mr Mills and his family escaped m their night attire, saving nothing.
The City Fire Bngade rece,v eda call to a six-roomed house at 87 Re treat Joad about 4 a.m. on Wednesday. TJ. occupant of the house, Mr Henry SunHi ww awakened from, his sleep by smoke Md fumes. The fire was confined to the dining-room and ite contents, and part of the mam roof. TM buildine was insured in the National Insurance Company for £760 and the content* for £2OO.
