Five thousand gallons of lic/utd soap, 170,0001b of soft-soap, 63,000Vfj of soap powder, and. 45,0001b of soda are used eacb year for the purpose of washing the White Star.liners Majestic, Olym pic. and Homeric. The' process ot cleaning necessitates an annual supply of 35,000 sponges and floor-cloths, and /or polishing brasswork, such as stairrods, door-handles, taps, etc., 15,000 tins of polishing paste are required every year.
