FIRES.

DESTRUCTIVE OUTBREAK. (prtSd ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) f PAHIATUA, January IS. Fire at Mangamutu yesterday afternoon destroyed a box factory, two cottages, and the Mangamutu Post Office, all adjacent to one another. The outbreak started in the factory, which, with all its contents, was totally destroyed. Helpers managed to rescue all the contents from the cottages, as well as the mails, safe, etc., from the post office, before they were razed. There was no water available. All the buildings were owned by i>Fraser. The full insurances are not available but the following are known to be in the New Zealand office:—Box factory and part of the wachmery, £495 :~a five-roomed cottage, £210; a four-roomed cottage. £220; a post office of two rooms, £IOO.
