CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL AT WAIAU.
The .children's annual fancy dress party organised by Hiss Bathgate -was held in the Public Hall on Friday, and the attendance bore amplo evidence that the Junction had not waned in popularity. The children's party extended from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m., and during that period the hall, with its large assemblage of happy, gaily-dressed youngsters, presented a very flno appearance. At 5 p.m. the children were paraded for the judging, which was carried out by Mrs Dearden and Miss Polhillf after which tea was served. Shortly before 8 p.m. the prizos were distributed, and "this part of the function was followed by the Grand March. AH the children carried banners or coloured streamers, and the scene was a very pretty one. The Rev. G. F. Neligan thanked Miss Bathgate for having organised the function. The children's party then, came to an end" and tha hall was cleared for dancing by the adults. The proceeds, which will be devoted to the fund for the upkeep of the Anglican parish car, amounted to. approximately £lO. The prize-winners were as follows: Girls —Six years and under: Kuth Neligan (Brown Butterfly) > 1, Dulcie Casserley (Cupid) 2, June Fechney (Red Rose) special. Seven to eight years: Ngaio Clark (Eastern Lady) 1, Nancy Gilling (Ballet Dancer) 2. Nine, ten, and eleven years: Eva Sutton (Swiss Peasant; Girl) 1, Solina Aldridge (Dear Little Shamrock) 2. Twelve years and over: Sheila Stevens (Niue Islander) 1, Dulcie Clark (Country Cottage) 2. Boys— Six years and under: Billy Foster (Punchinello) 1, Keith Robson (Footballer) 2, Pat Oldman (Painter) special. Seven and eight years: Brian Neligan (Frog) 1, Jimmy Banks (Pied Piper) 2. Nine, ten, and eleven years: Neal Dempsey (Swagger) 1, Ashley Banks (Rajah) 2. -Twelve years and over: Frank O'Kane (Pierrot) 1, Jack Oldman (Chef) 2. Lucky spot waltz, Sheila Stevens and Ruth Clark.'
