WILDING SHIELD | That tho Wellington Association is making a determined bid to capture not only the Wilding Memorial Shield, but to come out on top in the interprovincial match which is to bo played at Wilding Park on Monday, February 81st,' ig evident by the receipt of particulars of the personnel of their team, which reached Mr B. Browning, the secretary of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, yesterday. In addition to tho four members of the Shield team (Messrs E. D. Andrews, N. C.' R. Wilson, D. 0. France, and L. A. France), the interprovincial team insofar as the men are concerned, will be completed by the addition of Dr. W. Smyth* and C. E. Ualfroy, the latter being the junior champion of New Zealand. The ladies team comprises the present lady champion, Miss Arit* Howe, and the champion of 1924, Mrs Melody, also Miss Tracy, who recently defeated Miss Howe in the final of the Wellington provincial championship, and Miss East, Miss Trovers, and Miss North. The Canterbury Shield representatives indulged in a useful practice last evening at Wilding Park. It has been stated that Ollivier, the ex-champion, is playing as well as he has ever played. Much interest is being evidenced in his coming matches with E. D. Andrews (the present champion), and Noel Wilson, who was within two points of a. three-set victory against Andrews at Auckland at Chriatmas-time. Wilson has since become tho Wellington provincial champion. He plays a delightful game. Constant attention is being paid to the centre courts at the Park, and it is anticipated that they will be in excellent condition by Friday. Large crowds are expected to witness the Shield contest, and tho lawn tennis fraternity throughout tho Dominion will eagerly await the outcome of the match. Canterbury's record in the Shield matches to date gives ground for optimism as to the final roault. Whichever side wins the general pablio are sure to hav« the opportunity of witnessing a brand of tennis seldom eeen here. The lady members of the Wellington team will arrive in Christchureh on Sundsy morning. FRIENDLY GAME.
