Under the auspices of the Canterbury School Committees' Association a lecture will be given by Professor Shelley -In the Public Library tonight, Tho subject will be "Spoken English in Primary Schools." The offices of the Provident Lifo Assurance Co., Christchurch, will be closed on Thursday on tho occasion of tho annual picnic. The Canterbury Drivers' annual picnic will be held in the Southbridga Domain on February 19th. The Railway Department advertii.es particulars regarding tho running of n special excursion train, Christchurch to Otira, on Sunday, February 20th. An excursion is also being run from Greymouth to Otirtf oc this date.
