TWO COLLEGES.
TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE. (MISS ASSOCIATION TZLEOSAH.) PALMERSTON N., February 11 It is officially announced, in a communication to the Mayor (Mr F. J. Nathan) from the Hon. Mr Fowlds, chairman of the newly-formed Council of the New Zealand College of Agriculture, that the body unanimously decided to proceed with its preliminary plans for preparations of a schome for organisation of a fully-equipped agricultural college on the Palmerewn North site. A few days ago the College Council came to Paliuerston North to inspect the Batehelor estate, which has been purchased by the Government, and the McHardy property, which the municipality agreed to purchnpe for £IO,OOO as nn addition to the college site, subject to the university in the fullest sense being established here, and the brief announcement is the result. The deliberations of the College Council upon their return to Wellington will bo published subsequently, but will not be made Known pending their refcrcne* to tho Minister.
Mr Fin-Ids states {lint in their present form the statements and resolutions of the Council were adopted unanimously by it. He forwards the following statement: "That this College Council understands :
"(1) That it has heen constituted under the Agricultural College Art, ID2C, for tho purpose of organising an nftriciiltur.il college as provided for in the said act iipop the site at Palmerston North purchased by the Government for that purpose; "(2) That pending the ensuing session of Parliament the Council will be limited in the . work of organising a fully-equipped agricultural college to expenditure which comes within the statement made in Parliament by the Prime Minister at tho time of passing the Act: "(3) That the Government must naturally decide whether any proposed capital expenditure by the Council comes witnin the Prima Minister's statement; "(4) That subject to the limitations referred to in clause 2. the Council resolves to proceed with its preliminary plans and preparations of a schemo for the organisation of a fully-equipped agricultural college on the Palmerston North site; "'(•5) That the Council disclaims any desire to interfere in any way with the work or status of Lincoln College, and declares its willingness to confer at the earliest possible moment with the governors or tho said college to ensure tho fullest measures of co-operation and prevent undue overlapping."
