The monthly meetin; ci the Burwood Progressive Association was held in the B ' Public Hr.ll on Thursday evening, when tne following members were present. Messrs • • Ltggins (president), J. D. Correspondence was received from the £ ai mairi County Council concerning the cl "" ing of the Avon river, and the Rearing of sections on Bassett and Frances streets The reply with reference to the latter work .was considered unsatisfactory, and it«'2 to again bring the matter forward, suggest ng that the work could be compelled under tne Noxious Weeds Act. , ~„.„,. It was decided to ask the Christchurch City Council to remove certain trees on uualey creek in North Avon road, as it was considered that they were a grave rtangei to motorists. , , . ~, The Minister for Education advised tnat his Department was prepared to pay »s proportion of the cost of erecting a flood-gate at Horseshoe Lake to prevent fl<x> dm g ot a large area of good land. It was decided to bring the matter before the Drainage Board and to forward a copy of the correspondence to Mr Vi. J. Walter. . 4 ,„ The secretary was instructed to write to Mr J. McCreanor and Mr J. Lamble, asking them to cut back the fences on their property, as they were encroaching on tne footpath.
