■ —'— ' Y His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergussoh, was welcomed by a large gathering of citizens at New Plymouth yesterday. He. attended the Victoria League reception, and lunched with the Rotary dub. Later, he attended a parade of returned «>l- - veterans, and cadets, at which he presented the Imperial Challenge Shield to the Technical College Cadets, and the "Weekly Press" Shield to the High School Cadets.
Messrs J. C. Youtfg" (Palmerston North) and R. J. Le Cren (Timaru) are at the Clarendon Hotel. Professor J. MacraiUan Brown, Chancellor of the University of Now Zealand, who has been pursuing his investigations in»the Pacific Islands,' returns to Christchurch to-day. Guests at Warner's Hotel include Messrs R. Pettit, E. L. Shears, It. Bathurst (Wellington), R. Anderson (Wairoa), J. G. Phillips (Dunedin), and J. A. Brown (Westport). A London message states that Afr F. C. Lipscombo, associate of. the college of Art, who has been appointed art teacher at the lnvercargill Technical School, sails by the Tainui on December 4th.
Amongst the guests at the United Service Hotel are Messrs R. A. Davidson. A. A. Davies, J. Slater, H. Clarke, H. Makin, F. C. Drake (Wellington), R. F. Perham (Hokitika) T. Harrison (Winchester), R. Ma?aulay (Temuka) S. Cameron (Oamaru), and H. E. Jessep (Lake Coleridge). Mr Gilbert Archer, Curator of the Auckland Museum, recently found it necessary to go into hospital for treatment and is now at l"»|w»»« ™**™Z satisfactory progress. The Council of the Auckland Institute granted Mr Archey leave of absence for one month Mr Archey was formerly assistant curator of "the Chnatchurch Museum. Mr F. Burgorne, who for a n«mber of years has been a member of the Christohurch Drainage Board hae forwarded his resignation to that body.
