DISASTER IN WAIROA.
BUSINESS BLOCK WIPED OUT.

The most disastrous fire in the history of Wairoa occurred at 4 o'clock this morning, a central block of 10 business premises in Marino parade being completely dostroyed, wiping out one of the busiest sections of the town. The fire broke out in Osier's "tearooms. The borough water supply was not available, and the town having no fire-fighting equipment, the great crowd could only stand (helplessly by and watch tiio buildings go up in smoke. The insurances arc not completely available at present, but the losses are estimated at many thousands over the cover. Telegraphic communication north and south was temporarily cut off. The insurances on five of the premises total. £6200, distributed in the New Zealand, South Britisft, North British. Guardian, Queensland, British Traders' and British Dominions offices. The total loss is estimated at £25,000.
