\o one can sav definitely how a homing pigeon finds its way home. Some scientists think they do it«. bj sigit, but pigeons taken Jong distances in baskets still find their way home, although they cannot have seen the way. Others have thought the pigeon to have a kind of sixth sense, called a sense ot direction. Darwin says pigeons have such excellent local memories that tliey have been known to return to their former homes after an interval of nine months.
