Notes on the Racing. Proceedings commenced with tho Maiden Prate, for which a, held of eighteen facrd the barrier. ton o' Aline was a little better supported than Exactly and Arch a mift with .P'asSiOnato, 1 acticianj &nd Steel Bar next in order. Hon o' Mino was early !n the lead and essayed to win from end ■to end, but Tactician, who had always Seon well placed, stayed on to win by a reck from the favourite, who was well handled by J. O'Shea. The finish was a good one, as Arch Amie and Miss Vera were only . heads away. Tall Timber, Exactly, and Sandstar showed that they will noE bo long ere they have their numbers hoisted bv the judgei Miss Melva was tho only withdrawal from tho Grey Lynn Hurdles, leaving a field o£ thirteen, of which Prince Ruius •was made a firm favourite, with Miss Micky, Peter Amar.s, and Landbird next in public estimation. From a .good start Greek Son was the «arly leader, with A3 vent and Landbird handy. This trio carried on the running for the first round. Hithwav joinod Landbird, Greek Son, and Miss Mickv along the back and a, fino race ensued. Highway and Landbird were first into tho straight, but Highway took the last fence best and won nicely by half a Icng-th from Landbird, with Miss Micky two lengths away third. Peter A mans fell at tho first hurdle and Princo Rufus, Ekplorer, and Advent also camo to grief. Tho Avondale States brought "together a good field of nineteen two-year-olds. The Australian-bred colt Mimetic was made a ■very strong favourite and in order behind liim were Nastori, Father' O'Flynn, Lady Cavendish, and tho bracketed pair Automne ar.d CK>l3en Autumn. Automne was first to show out with Mimetic and Nastori handv. Then Oration, showing a burst of speed, dashed to tho front, but he could rot go on with it. Entering the straght thft leaders swung 1 ocit fled at tho distance Antomno camo fast on the rails, and runruns on, Tvon nicely hy half a •eiijjth from Hyde Park, who finished well, while .Ua-cly Cavendish who was third half a. length away, was finishing faster than anything in tho race. , Tho Avondalo Cup. run over a mile and a half, drew a fine field of fifteen Mueketoon winding up favourite, with Illumination, Gold Light, Pompcy, Marble Bell, and Landslide 6Upportcd in that order. Gold Licht and Landslide, who were nearest the mis, were the first to show out, and then Landslide M*as taken to the front- lastnamed made the pace but was uono with rwiißn iho straight uros entered. Gold Light was always well placed when asked for her effort at the distanco post, camo away nicely to win by three parts of a length. Boomorday was a long way back in the earlier part of the race but finished Terv stronglv to beat Musketoon by half a length. The" English horse seemed to have every chance, but was not good enough on the day. Marble Bell finished on well, but was badly placed in the earlier part, while Illumination was never sighted. Tho Welter Handicap drew another large field, twenty facing the barrier. J'own Bank carried £630 more than the second favourite, Jlafa, with Archibald, Ilka, and Heisler next best supported. Heisler was first to break tho line and piloted Archibald, MiS3 Egypt, Just. Quietly, and Dan Quin along the back. Dan Quin was firs; into the straight, where the field bunched, and in a punishing finish, Miss Egypt, who had been always well placed, got up in timo to defeat Dan Quin by a neck, with Gala Day, who was not too well handled in tho

straight, a neck away third. Master O'l\ork<s %vho was disappointed or three times, did well to finish close up focrth. The Flying Staies Handicap -was contested bv* fifteen sprinters, Royal Blood boin" -the' elect of backers with the bracket, Kin? Merv and Princo Abbey, Broad wood, Namutcrc. nnd Soliform supported in that order. Prince Abbey, Master Doon and iioyal Blood wero the first to move, but Royal Blood was soon at the lead of affairs, ■with Master Doon and Finelli as his nearest attendant?. The tcp-wcight was first into the straight, and at th? distance w&s well clear. Over the last piece, Soliform put in a pood run, closely followed by Namutere, but this pair just failed to reach the favourite, who won by a neck from Soliform, and at a similar interval Namutere finished third, with King Merv another neck a-sray fourth. Broad wod / j nd Luciu3 were never prominent. In the Henderson Handicap, for which there were sixteen runners. Bright Dhv carried most money, with Kills' Quin, Kuhio, and Lapidary next in demand. From the barrier rise. Gold Rain was first to show out, but Polonett soon displaced him and put a break on the field. The Polydamon "gelding was never afterwards headed, winning with ease by three lengths. In the straight Smoke Concert made » good run and 'secured second place, both he and the winner returning- good dividends. Kuhio was running on pt the end in third pla-ce, but was still half a length away at the finish. The supported division were never prominent, tho winner running them of! their legs. The concluding event of the day, tho Swanson Hack Welter, provided a field of thirteen runners. Dazzling Light, Nightraider, Knighthood, and Barometer were the public fancies. Dazzling Light eet out to win from end to end, but was beaten at tho distance, where Bajomcter took charge and, although Xifht raider and Potoanui put in strong challenges, he stayed on to ivin by halt a length from Nightraider, who wa3 a neck in front of Potoanui. Nightraider will be benefited by the gallop and should win soon.
