MISHAPS ON MAIN TRUNK LINE.
I -♦- (r-BESS ASSOCIATION TILEGIIASIS.) TAUMAEUNUI, August S. By a strange coincidence, both the northern -and southern expresses were delayed last evening. A slip occurred on the Main Trunk line at Mataroa, near Ohakune, and tho express from Wellington was held at Ohakune until 2 a.m., arriving at Taumarunui at 5.20 a.m., thus being over five hours late. Another mishap occurred at Ongsrue, near the scene of .last year's disaster. A goods train left .Taumarunui at 7 p.m. yesterday for Te Kuiti and a truck became derailed and the permanent ivav was damaged. The cause of the derailment is not known. .The wrecked waggon, was backed off the line, and after a delay of .nearly seven hours , the line was cleared. The express from Auckland was delayed about an hour, and.did not arrive at Taumarunui until 2.45 a.m. Two goods trains in front of the express were similarly delayed. • AUCKLAND, August S. The southern express was delayed by landslips and arrived here at 11.40 a.m. to-day, five hours late.
