BURWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
Tte monthly meeting of . tbo Buxwood School Committee was held on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs J. Liggins, J. i). McKechnio, G. Robinson, H. Rowse, W. Bwnpton, H. Farrar, J. Wilson. Arrangaruents were made for the spoutings to bo cleaned out, Mr Barapton undertaking to procure the necessary labour. Final arrangements Tero made for Miss Lucy Cowan's concert this evening. The Education Board's architect submitted a plan of the proposed school swimming bath, and the chairman was authorised to make arrangements *itb/ the Board to call for tenders. It was decided to hold a children's fancy clreaa bail on August 21st, and to hold a special meeting on Wednesday next to ds-ait a programme, allot (prizes, and appoint judges. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Bradford expressing tho committee's appreciation of the wfEer of music. It was repoitetl that Mr 3 Welch and Mrs Liggins had offered to give prizes for the fancy costumes, and they were accorded a vote of thanks. The Visiting Committee gave its report, and amongst other things suggested an improvement to the football ground. It was decided to ask the Waimairi County Council that spoil taken from tho Burwood roads should bo carted into the school paddock to level the ground. Tho chairman reported that ho had attended ' tho ceremony of opening the opener room at Fendalton. It was decided to apply to the Board for a load of screenings for tho mnin drive. The headmaster's report showed the roll to be IGB, and the average daily attendance 143. Inspectors Evans and McNeil had inspected the echcol on July 2Jst. A vote of sympathy was p«esed with Mr and Mrs Hall in the illneßS of their daughter Mabel. Messrs J. Wi:aon and H. Kowse were appointed a Visiting Committee. i
