REFRESHER COURSE AT BURNHAM.
The camp at Burnbam, where the officers and nan-coanmissioned officers of the mounted regimenta of the South Maud underwent a six days' refresher course, broke up on Thursday. The camp was under Colonel John Finlay, 0.15., D.5.0., officer commanding Southern Mounted Brigade. Major S. "P. C. NichoUs, D.5.0., N.Z.5.0., was also in camp, as were also the officers commanding the three mounted regiments —--Lieutj.-Cobon<il Acton Adams. Ist Canterbury M.R. (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), Lieut.-Colonel Mitchell, 6th Otaso M.K. (Otago Hussars), and Lieut.-Colonel Chaytor, Sth kelson M.B. In all 25 officers and 73 non-commissioned officers took part in the refresher course, the idea of which was to provide a course of instruction for officers and non-oommi&sioned officers to assist them in passing examinations for commission, or promotion, and as a refresher course, more or less, prior to carrying out their annual training. Tney were given a complete course in drilL musketry, Hotchlriss gun, machine aim, physical training and tactics. Every afternoon special Gonads of officers were formed and carried out small tactical schemes. With the exception of Tuesday and Wednesday 'last, the work was done in the open. The conclusion of the camp was marked by a highly successful improvised concert on Wednesday night. Representatives of the Y.M.C.A. attended and provided the customary ad]uncto which were greatly appreciated.
