COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS.
AN EMPIRE CONFERENCE. (ht casus—pmss association oopiwost.) (MVTU'e TJILSSEAJH.) LONDON, July 24. Representatives of associations in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, in addition to membera of the Commercial Travellers' Associar tion in' Great Britain and Ireland, attended the first Congress of the Empire Commercial Travellers' Association, which opened in London this morning. Tli© Lord Mayor and Lord Kylsant oordially welcomed the delegates. Mr J.. Davies (Australia) read a paper on the economic value and the status of the commercial traveller. Mr F. W. Manttan (New Zealand) said that the commercial traveller there in many cases spent his spare time prospecting and opening the country. During a discussion on the organic ing of travelling on trade union lines, Mr F. Coysh, British secretary, said that such a 6tep would bo disastrous and utterly impracticable. It would establish an impassable barrier between employers and travellers. An Australian delegate said his association would oppose the union, which would be objectionable to the average traveller.
