To-day the Ashburton County repre- > ! sentative team will journey to EUesmere to meet the Ellcsmere team in an annual match. The second and third grade competitions will proceed « . usual, at the Show Grounds and in the country districts. _ Much interest is being taken in the Association code, which has now been well established in the county. This afternoon a representative fixture will be played between the Possibles and Probables at the Domain, and as some clever oversea players will be taking part, a fast, sparkling exhibition of the Soccer code should be witnessed. The Mayor of Ashburton (Mr R. Galbraith) will be in attendance and will kick off. Air J W. Timlin, an old Otago repreI sentative will probably referee the match. Golf. Mrs It. Tucker was the winner of the sealed hole match played on Thursday. ,On Tuesday next a nine-hole stroke "match for juniors will be" played, and on I Thursday the fourth monthly medal. 1 Following is the draw for the ladies championships: —Seniors: Mrs E. iNicol plavs Miss Stewart, Mrs 3?. Kennedy plays Mrs H. Seldon, Miss Keith | plays Miss Digby. Junior: Missi Orbell ! piavs Miss Laing, Miss Boddmgton ' pinvs Mrs J. Smith. Mrs H. Spooner, Miss E- Brown, Miss Dunlop, Miss Pettey, and Mißs Bonnington hay® byes. Hockey. To-day the six-a-side tourney of tho Ladies' Hockey Association will be held at the Domain. The entries received i are a record, boing 14, as follows: I Three each from High School, Rakaia, ' and Technical, two from Methven, and one each from Mount Somers, Hinds, and Tinwald. It is expected that some : fast games will be witnessed. The : tourney commences at two o'clock. j Chamber of Commerce. The Ashburton Chamber of Commerce is fast establishing itself as an ! influential body in the town. Arrasgej ments have now been completed for the library, which is situated in the A. and P. Association's rooms. Various journals in connexion with commerce and industry will now bo procurable by members. The adding of members to the Chamber is proceeding steadily, and it is expected that well over 100 business men and representatives will be on the books before long. The Council is a live body, and it is believed that the Chamber will provo itself a most progressive and beneficial institution. Croquet Clnb. The Ashburton Croquet Club's pavilion is now being considerably enlarged and improved, in readiness for the opening day of the coming season. The season is expected to open with an increased number of players, including a number of men wlio have signified their intention of joining. This will be an acquisition which the lady members have desired, as there have been no male players seen on the lawns since the late Rev. J. R. Burgin's time, in 1915, with the exception of one afternoon last season when a number of Ashburton bowling members joined in some most interesting games. The pavilion is being enlarged by lengthening and widening the verandah, the addition of a new tea room, and a separate room for the male members who are expected to join the club. Mail STotiees.
