EDUCATION.
W.E.A. AND N.Z.E.I. CONFERENCE. Matters relative to ihe conference on the education system of the Dominion, which has been arranged for by rep resent a-tm 9 of tho CV.r.'crbr.ry District Council of tho W.E.A. and of the Canterbury section of the y.Z. Educational Institute, hare been advanced considerably by the completion of the list of speakers who are to pive addresses on different phnses of tho education system of the Dominion. The general scops of tho conference was set out in the report of a meet'ng-~ cf the representatives of both organisation?, wlrch appeared in "'Tho Prois" "of the 11th inst. The main idea underlying the conference is to arouse interest amongst parents and the public penerally in educational matters, and particularly in the working of tho Dominion's education system; and it is considered that members of She Educational Institute, who are en-Tasjed in vr->rk-ing under the system, are in a position to give first-hand information of inteest and vaiue of its effects and of its efficiency, or otherwise. Tho oonferenco will he. spread over fite meetings, tho dates of which, and the names cf the speakers and the eubjtct* on which they will give addresses, aro f.3 follows: August 2nd: Chairman, Mir H. T>. Aclcnd, president of the TV.E.A. Subject: "Tho Purposes of Education." Speaikere: Professor J, Shelley and Mr C. T. Aschman. August 16th: Chairman, Mr C. T. Asofaman. Subject: "The Administration of Primary Schools." Speakers: Messrs J. Cr. Poison and G: Latm. August 30th: Chairman, Dr. Charles Chilton, Rector of Canterbury College. Subject: "Post-primary, Vocational, and Secondary Education." Speakers: Dr. D. E. Hansen, Director of Chr'stchuroh Technical College, Messrs H. Vv'orra'l and S. Fournier. September I3th: Chairman, Mr J. E. Parchas, Principal of Christchurch Tra nins College. Subject: ''Schools and Their Equipment." Speakers: Mr H. P. Peiilington and another to be arranged for. September *23 rd: Chairman, Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. Subject: "Subjects Taught in Primary Schools." Speakers' Miss D. Baster and Professor J. B. Condliffo. The procedure at each me.etih" Will bo that two speakers will be half an hour each to deal with the eubject, and that one hour will be devoted to a general discussion of the subject by all present ft ho desire to do so. All the meetings will be open to the public, and it is hoped that paTenta, members of school committees, and all interested will take full advantage of the opportunity offered by the conference to discuss the education eyetem of the Dominion.
