Magistrate's Court. Captain R. HatchWl, J.P., presided at the Msgiatrate's Court yesterday. Patrick Grant, a fireman in tho etearner Kaikorai, was convicted, and fined 10s for drunkenness. Ho also pleaded guilty to s> charge of having mado a disturbance in the EarbouT Light Theatre the previous eveningand was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment.
Tall Down Hold. "While working on the steamer Port Hunger yesterday afternoon, a. waterside worker, Henry Fairthorne, a. married man residing at Oxford torr&co, Chriatehurch, fell d<*wn tho hold of tho vessel, a distance of 24 feet. He was attonded at the casualty ward by Dr. 0. H. Upham, who found Mm to be suffering from a broken wrist and seven) internal injuries. Ho was later removed to tho Chriatchurcli Hospital. Obituary. The funeral took place at Rapaki Pa yesterday of Mi's Mere Riw&i, widow of the late John Riwai, an old resident of the settlement. Tho late Mrs Kiwai was bom ai Rapaki 54 yeaiß ago. She leaves two sons augl tfro daughters. Owing to the Health Department's new regulation against tangis the t&ngi was only a email one, but besides tho Maoris of Rapaki thoro were present representatives of the Tuahiwi and Port Levy Settlements. The service at the church and at the graveside -.vas conducted by the Be v. S. Bailey. Watersiders' Union. The annual election of officers _ of the Lyttelton Waitersido Workers' Union was completed this week, with tho following result;— President, Mr "W. Logan; secretary, Mr J. .Flood; acting-secretary, Mr "W. E. Agar; vice-president, Mr T Radcliffe; Disputes Committee, Messrs W. Bate, J. Flood and P. C. Shirley; General Committee, Messrs R. Cairns, "W. Cummings, F. Egan, H. Gibbona, J. Jones. J. Morris, A. x\, PatfScU, E. Rocho acd C. TVhittington. Seamen's Institute. The weekly concert on Thursday was arranged by the Rev. and Mra T. M. Curnow, Th3.y were indebted to Mr Roland Boot for sending down a splendid concert -pa/rty from among Iris pupils. The items were:—Piano dues, Misses Langridg«; voca! solos, Misses <t. Lansridge, Dalley .and Sherriffs and and Law. Messrs Manning (recitation) and J. Dyke (song) of the Waimana also assisted. Supper was arranged by Mt3 Sommens and Mra Curnow.
