HEATHCOTE. . The Heathoote County Council mat list night. Present: Crs. C. Flavell (chairman), VT. Scarff, A. H. Adams, V 7. Kerr, B. ( Biley, and J. H. li'oore. An apo'ogy was ! received, far the absence of €r. A. P. Smith. ' The Cashmere Progress League wrote objecting to a trainway balloon loop oil this Dyir'a Pass road, near the Convalescent home. Cr. Scarff said that ■ a wait on the Tramway Board on the question. There was a better petition for the loop along' Hackthorne rood,' where it would be permanent. The Council decided to take no aciion at present. The clerk reported that he had been informed that the City Council's Works Committee had recommended the expenditure of £4OO on repairs to Page's road. The City Council lorwftrded a cheque for £35 Bs, contribution towards kerbihg aid channelling the road. The He%tth Inspector. recommended that permission shouid bo given to owners in the road, in Aranui, to connect with the sido-channcl. The report was adopted. In regard to a swfimp at the c6rner of the road, the clerk was instructed to send to thb Burgesses' Association a copy of tho Heilth Department's leport on Tha Aranai Burgeas»»' Association wrote asking for the grading and 'lowering of Breast's rtad to a. uniform'level, as Unde(ratood -when tho loan proposal was' submitted. The question was left in' the hands of Cr. Moore and the inspector. Mr 8. Gallagher, Beckenhum, wTOtn complaining of the state of Hill's road near tho Crlewkore Company's premises. The chairman said that the work would be done, but that there was more pressing *°Mr A. A motion was passtd to register an easement against' the l*nd, and the question of the right-of-way was referred to Cr. Scajff. The Wairewi County Council wrote asking if the Council favoured holding » conference to rrscua» hospital levies, paying patents m the hostntal and hospital charges. The clerk was instructed to write U> tJie tVSlrowa Council for further pwtieulsw. The WwmaJariri Trust wrote wthonamg the Council to levy a rate on behalf of the Trust, which would pay any reasonable expenses in collecting the rate. The Chairman: This will bo another rate, but wo have no otition. The letter was receivca. The clerk reported that the request had (necessitated (alterations to the> ratebook, ■ocat of the issue of rate demands ~UKUSt SOth, and caaceUatiou of a ■oecial meeting called for AiJgUst 6th. CiS reported that, with favourable weather, the contractor for work on Macmillan kremit, Cashmere, should complete the w<wk, except asphalting the footnathfl. in about two Weeks. The metalling of Pace's road had been held owing _to bad weather and shortage of .ratal. Timber for the Horotme bridge had been received from the Lyttelton Harbour Board. The electrician reported that extra lamps had been erected on tho TTpper Dyer s Piss road, and the mains had been extended to "Westenra terrace. A motion vas passed: that a further oebentur©, number two, in respect to tlio Mount Pleasant loan of £4OOO, No. 0 workers' dwellings, should be' issued at four and a half per cent, for thirty-six years. The Council passed a grant of £24 14a to the Canterbury Progress League. A complaint in reference to the rough condition of Regent street between Wai-iti street>nd "Wainui street wu referred to Cr. Moore. , , Mr J. McCombs, M.P., forwarded a copy of a Vesting Bill in connexion with the Mount Pleasant foreshore. *
