It is believed to be due to the massacre of Koreans in Japan following the earthquake. Singapore Base. The more friendly attitude of the Government towards the Singapore base is attributed to the powerful influence of the Admiralty. Business Control. The Unionist Party has appointed a qualified business man as principal agent. It is the first time that such an appointment has been made outside political circles. Nauru Phosphate. In the House of Commons there was a debate on Nauru and Britain's interests therein. No Money. Tho Legislative Council having blocked supply, Tasmania has no ■ money to pay her Civil servants. Items. Turkey and Germany are signing a treaty of friendship. Criminal charges havo been laid in connexion with the American oil scandals.
