Ho lmd had no iuea that the "unhappiness" between tho Union and ' the Marist Club would have lasted so long, j and had hoped that it would have come to a head T long tone ago. As- it was, he was content to place himself in the hands of the committee, and, if necessary, would servo his term until the annual meeting. His opnonents could not say then he had shirked his job. Mr Dey explained that when Mr Payno was elected to the Management Committeo he ceased to be a delegate of any club, and was one of tho governing body. Tho Board regrets that such practices, which are contrary to tho spirit of tho game, axe not diminishing, but increasing. Tho is I strongly of the opinion that the present laws are more than sufficient to stamp out all unfair practices indulged in, provided referees will only act, and.act promptly, and enforce full penalties. The Board is anxious to support referees, no matter how drastically they enforco the rules." The Coming Season. There was some discussion concerning the date of tho annual meeting, it being recognised that an early start would have to bo made this season. . With regard to the proposed English tour, Mr Dey said that experience in the past showed that it would bo necessary to consider tho country players in Canterbury. It might be necessary oven to have a country week. The Union must bo loyal_ to New Zealand, and it was its duty to provide the best players from the wholo of Canterbury as candidates for the New Zealand toam There might be some need to break off the usual competitions to inaugurate test games as a means of ascertaining nominees for tho New Zealand team to go on tour. This wag an additional reason why tho competitions should be commenced early in the year. It was agreed to hold the annual meeting of the Union on Thursday, March 13th.. ■ Mr S. F. Wilson wrote statintr that he had definitely decided not to accept nomination for the position of president of tho Union for the coming eeason. The secretary was instructed to write to M F. He would be very sorry to see a man appointed before delegates met. Mr Mitchell said that, like Mr Dunne, he had heard that a certain ms.n was to be appointed, and that it looked as if the appointment was to be cut and dried, xio had heard that Mr W. S. Glenn, M.P. for Rangitikei, was to bo appointed tho manager. A voice: isot on your life 1 Another voice: No fear. Mr Cavanagh said that ho did not think the executive of tho New Zealand Union had the power to make the appointment. This was a, matter covered by "incoming business." Tho Chairman: Was it not understood at the last meeting of delegates that tho manager would be elected at tho annual meeting of delegates? Mr White said that the appointment was one which affected the wholo of the players of New Zealand, and also the various Unions. That being so, the appointment should oe mado at tho animal meeting. Thero was plenty of time after the annual meeting of delegates for tho manager appointed to make the necessary arrangements to go Home. .He feiT sure that if the delegates had a voice in the appointment it would be received with greater satisfaction both by the general public and the general body of players.
