Coates attended the opening of the Nihotapu Dam, extending the city water supply, and giving a storage of 540,000,000 gallons, equal to the demand-for the next ten years. ' Mr Coates stated that it had been definitely decided to continue the Arapuni hydro-electric scheme. The Government meant to fulfil their contracts for the supply of power in 1923. Plans and specifications had already been printed, and had been sent overseas. A commission of engineers had declared the scheme perfectly safe, and it was expected that four or five large firms would tender for the construction of the dam and headworks.
