CASUALTIES.
"Clarence Vivian McHardie, twentysix. years of age, a .telegraphist, met ■with a fatal accident at Ashburton on Tuesday niglit. Ho had been riding a, cycle, and unexpectedly came to a water-race just outside the town. He was thrown *off the machine, and tiie impact broke his,nose, and he lay 6tunned in about eighteen inches of water. Ho was found dead yesterday morning by a carrier. McHardie had been transferred from Wanganui threo weeks ago, and was to be married nest Tuesday. An inquest is to be held. Gordon Sibley, residing at 17 Lyttelton street, Spreydon, was thrown from a horse yesterday, and sustained a fracture of the right leg. Ho was admitted to the CEristchurch Hospital. Stanley.Childs, a, student of Lincoln College, while riding a motor-cycle along Gloucester street yesterday, evidently lost his , sense *of direction through the glare of the sun, and colliaed with a telegraph post in Oxford terrace. He was admitted to the Hospital in an unconscious condition, but recovered consciousness ' later. Ohilds is a well-known footballer, whoso parents reside in Lyall Bay, Wellington. At the inquest on the victims of the Kaiteratalii bridge fatality, the Coroner- returnod a verdict that no blamo was attachable to any officer of the Railway Department. MABTER.TON, February 28. , Frank Barclay, a married man, was thrown from his horse near the "hospital last evening, and died daring the night.
