"Can you inform me what subject it is proposed shall be left out of the school syllabus to make time for Bible instruction, if this is instituted f" asked a lady teacher of the chairman at a meeting of the Auckland Educational Institute. "It is suggested,that we shall giro the children tooth-brush drill, and as the syllabus is already overcrowded, we would like to know how the extra time is to be gained if Bible instruction is to be given as well." Amid laughter, the chairman confessed the question was too big for him to tackle. "I hardly think the matter of Bible teaching is on the same lines as tooth-Tw-ush drill," observed another texcher, who passed on to other more relevant phases of the question.
The 10th Battery will hold live shell practice with 18-pounder guns on Friday next, across the Estuary from Canal Beserve to the New Brighton sandspit, between 10.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Fishing parties and others are warned- to keep clear during shooting operations. The 9th Battery will 1 parade at the King Edward Barracks at 1 p.m. the same day. The 10th Battery is now holding a six days' course of training at Hagley Park, a tabloid athletic meeting being held there to-day.
