' [ It was aiso decided on the motion of Mr Ballin that a mrther-remit be that it be a recommendation to the Council that a unilorm set of limits be arranged in handicapping. A further remit to the Conference was agreed to on the motion of Mr BaJlin as lollows: "That it be a recommendation. to the Council that flection A of Rule 13 be so amended, or a new rule be adopted, aa to provide.that where competitors net eligible to represent centres start in championship events, the interests of centres engaged in the championship shield contest shall be fully safeguarded in both heats and finals by the piacings of such outside competitors being disregarded, and the relative piacings of cen-. tf© representadtves being given their full values in the shield competition." A further recommendation to the Council was that entry fees for championship events should be 2s 6d, instead of Ss, and a remit was also passed concerning' competitors' costumes. It was decided to approve of the team to represent Canterbury at the New . Zealand Championships on I February 24th at Wellington, as picked by the Selection . Committee. . , It was decided that all arrangements made io hold the remainder of the Canteebury Championships some .time in March. PAPANUI-HAREWOOD CLUB. When sports were held at -Papanui some years back the meetings were' the most successful in Canterbury. The spirit of sport has been revived rigain, and a ver y 'trong club has been formed called the Pa-pahui-Harewood Athletic and Cyole Club, 'ihe committee of this "club consists of very energetic workers, and they are holding » big sports meeting in the Domain on Saturday, March 24th. For the cycling events, they are holding-a wheel'race, distance li miles, lvalue £lO, and a one-mile open race; also a 2-mile derby race, the first prize being a gold medal valued at' £8 Bs, given by' the secretary of the club. (Mr T. H. Clough), and second prize a medal "valued at £2 2s, given by Mr R. Rickerby. There will also be a 2-mile scratch race for the championship of Canterbury. Mr F. Sisson, the president of the club, is giving £3 3s to the rider * securing, most points in the cycling events. A spiendid programme of athletic event* ha 3 been arranged, including a Sheffield Handicap, of 120 yds, the first prize being £lO. A novelty event, for residents of the Waimfliri County, will be for a competitor to run 100 yds, then ride a lap round the track on a bicycle, and then run one lap. Mr W. Smith, treasurer of the club, is giving £3 3s for the competitor gaining most points in the athletic events.
