— ■ 1 ' I The monthly meeting of the Linwood' School Committee was held on Wednesday. Present—Merars H. F. Herbert (in the chair), H. J. Bowlker, W. H. Denton, H. Macintosh, Geo. Phillips, R. H. Wilson, W. S. Young and J. Lindley. Satisfaction was expressed at the condition of the School swimming bath, which has been cleaned and whitewashed. The committee unanimously recommended the appointment of Miss K. M. Free as assistant mistrefes. It was decided to procure two loads %>f eand for the sand, pit. The secretary was instructed to write and congratulate E. Carmichel on gaining, a Junior National Scholarship and winning the Cowie Scholarship, this being the second Linwood pupil to win a Junior National Scholarship. in recent years. It was decided to hold a picnic at Motukarara on March Ist. The Visiting" Committee reported that the school grounds weTe in very good order and 'a credit to the caretaker. Application was received from the returning officer for the use of one of the rooms for a polling place in the event of a contest for the Licensing Committee for Avon. The committee was of the opinion that a tent in the school grounds would be hetter, and save disturbing the school woTk.
