CROQUET.
RANGIORA CLUB. The annual meeting of tie croquet section of the Rangiora Bowlinpr, Tennis, and Croquet CUub was held on Wednesday evening l , Mr W. E. Barton presiding. The report, which dealt chiefly with the eaMon's play, was of a satisfactory nature. The following officers were appointed:— President, Mrs Chappell; secretary, Mrs Gibba-Joidaa; oommittee, Mesdfcmea M. Scott, O. I. Jennings, S. A. Weboar, _C. Keir, and Miss D. Marshall; representatives on the general oommittee of t&je» club, Messrs H. Boyd and ju E. Goldin®; nominated' for uleotion to. the general committee, Messrs W. E. Barton and W. Allison.
Two Danish farmers were discussing the progress of settlement in the district, with a representative of the "Manawatu Times." One of them remarked: "The young generation does not know what the pioneers of this district went through. Why, when I went on to niy farm, I had to walk five miles for my mail, and the mud was knee-deep. These were very hardj but happy days."
