Constiiblo Bandy, of Itanfurly, whilst in the execution of his duty, had iui exciting experience on Wednesday. Two farmers named George Dovenncy and Williun Griifin Dowling occupy farms divided only by a road, and thoro has been some unpleasantness over this. On Wednesday Dovenncy, armed with a .shotgun, went over to see Dowling, and as tlio latter came down the load towards him, opened file. Dowling ran away, and Dcvenney, it is allege), puanother cartridge in tho gun and again lired, missing .Dowling and also his mui, who was nearby. Constable liiindy, who witnessed tho shooting, then took a hand, and iircd a shot from his revolver over Devennoy's head, as a caution, but the latter, it is stated, ignored tho warning and lired a third .shot, uhi'h narrowly missed tho constable. Kandy thereupon fired low at Devennev, arid the bullet struck the ground at in, fee!, splashing dirt and tand in his fa'e. IMmucy tTien dropped his gun, and ran acros3 the paddock. Yesterday Onstablo Handy brought Dcvenney, who is - r ,O years of to Dunedin, and tho latter appeared at the Police Court this morr.ing, < barged wills attempted murder. Ho was remanded. Cannibal nay, about five mile; from Owaka, was the scene of an exciting affair on Tuesday last. Two re.-rierit named Edmund Treherno and Wilson, both single men, living in houses between 200 and ,'iCO yards apart, had a dispute. It is alleged that Wilson went to Trchcrne's house, wlirro tho couple had a few drinks toother, and an altercation aro-e.
