BOXING.

♦ CANTERBURY COLLEGE TOURNAMENT. A boxing tournament., organised by the recently-formed Canterbury College Boxing Club; was held in tho Boys' High School gymnasium on Saturday evening, when about a. dozen bouts between members of tho club wer© staged. There was a fair attendance ot epectatois. Most cf the bouts, which consisted of three two-minute rounds each, proved interesting, and altcgetner a very good evening's sport was prouded. Several ol the boxer* showed a fair Knowledge of un-a game, and no doubt tome of tnem will give a good account ot themselves in the boxing matcnes at the n*xt Inter-Univeisity touinament. At the last tournament the Canterbury Coiiege representatives made a poor Bhowing so far as boxing was concerned, and so it was decided to start the club to foster the sport, and afford adequate opportunities for training and coaching. The tournament showed that the club is doing good woik, .and is justifying its existence. A cup hae been provided for the member of the -club who gives the most scientific display of boxing, and it was awarded to Farquharson, who boxed a no-decision bout with (Jotter. At the close Of the tournament the cup was handed to Farquharson by Professor Blunt (president of the club). Mr T. E. Eobson acted as referee, and the judges were Messrs W. G. Atack and A. B. Ki.k. The bouts were as follows: Ac-heson. (lOst 81b) v. K. "Williams (10=t 3lb) t—Acheson fought vigorously, and led all the way. He won easily ou points. Dugdale (10st i2lb) v. Miller (list 3lb)— Dugdale proved much superior to his opponent, and the fight was called off in the second round. Coster (lOsi) v. (lust 3lb)—This bout was aho called off in the second round, McCaskill proving himself much the better of tho two." Harris (list 7lb) v. P. L. B. Williams (12st 6lb) —Williams won the three rounds easily. He fought vigorously, and frequently forced Harris on to the ropes. Cotter (9st 111b) v. Farquharßon (9st 4lb)— This was a no-decision bout. It provided a fairly even go, but Farquharson had the .best of it most of the way. Craven (12st 4lb) v. lowther (list 8lb) The only bout of the evening in which the loser took the count. Craven got in some great blows, and in the second round he knocked Lowther out. Jeune (9st 2lb) v. Lueenu (9st 4lb) —This was one of the most even fights of the evening, and an extra round was ordered. Jeune got the' decision. De Roo (lOst 61b) v. Wright (10st 61b)— These two were well matched, the decision goin«r to De Roo after an even go. Petre (10ft 121b) v. R<jed (lOst 13lb) —Reed had the better of this bout, and won fairly easily on points. PROFESSIONAL CONTEST. fruir«- »nsf>mriTi v Tttv.WfJWXw 1 NEW PLYMOUTH, August 13. In a professional match for a purse of £IOO, Lawrie Cadman (Auckland) defeated Leo Macasey (Taranaki), the referee stopping the fight early in the second round, after Macasey had been down for nine in the first i round.
