The Canterbury Progress League Unemployment Committee met yesterwhen there were present: Messrs "ff. H. "VVinsor (in the chair), A. -F. Drayton, W. J. Jenkin, S. F. Marshall,E. Leadley, P. It. Climic, .T. G. pjelder, and T. Druinmond (hon. secretary).
Mr, Drayton, reporting on behalf of the deputations which had waited upon the (various local bodies, said it had teeti found that the finances of those bodies were not sufficiently good to enable the members to offer much assistance. • •A letter was received from the local office of the Labour Department, stating- that the request for a donation of £lO to the committee's funds had been referred to the secretary of the Department of Labour. . 'lt was decided t-o write thanking tho Kaiapoi -Borough Council for the efforts 4t: had made to provide employment.--

They had received a very sympathetic hearing, but ihe did not think there was much prospect, of securing work. He thought -ltjltQuld be. a good plan to make an gorifrcutting.
