A sensational development is reported in connexion with the oase of Father Heslin. On August 2nd, an excited, closely-muffled foreigner called at the JReotory, and induced Father Heslin to accompany him on a visit to an allegedly sick friend. Subsequently Archbianop Hannan received a demand for Father Heslin's ransom. On Wednesday a mechanic named High tower informed the police that he ' had met a drunken foreigner, who declared he had killed a man, and indicated the place of burial. Hightower went to the spot, and, after digging, discovered, the priest's body, shot through the heart. He had evidently been dead only a couple of days, after jbeing held a prisoner. There were several indications that a grave had been dug, and the piriest placed on its brink and then shot. The police are holding Hightcrwer till they can investigate the disappearance of his alleged informant. fA message from San Francisco on August 6th said Father Patrick Heslin, a well-known priest, had disappeared. Archbishop Hannan received an unsigned note demanding a ransom of 50,000 dollars, and threatening the death of Father Heslin if the money was not delivered. The note said the priest was held in a cabin near San Francisco.!
