Coates, Minister of Public Works, writing to tho Christ - church..City Council with referenco to the construction of the Mount Pleasants Evans Pass road, stated that in December, IPI9, this work was estimated to cost £2553, and it had been agreed by Sir William Eraser, on the condition that. certain interested parties contributed tho sum of '£looo, to find tho balance, of the cost of the work. To date authorities totalling £2SCO had been issued and expended, but it was now found that tho work would cost an additional £IOOO. In view of the fact that a definite promiso was made to find the whole cost of the work over and above the £IOOO, contributed by the interested parties, tho Minister had approved of the expenditure of this additional £1()00, and authority for that amount had been issued. At the meeting of tho City Council last night it was resolved to thank tho Minister for his action.
