LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. Tao Christ-church City Council met last nigtht. Present—Tlie Mayor (Dr. ThackerV and Crs. H. Hunter, F. K. Cooke, H. E. Lang-ley, A. "Williams, H. T. Armstrong. J. A. Flesher, F. Burgoyne, H. F. Herbert, J. 0. Jameson. C. S. Harper, E. H. Andrews, D. G. Sullivan, and J. W. Beanlara. Leave of absence was frranted to Ct. E. F. Stead. Cr. Beanlar.a presented' a petition from residents of MrFcdcer/s road, St. Albans, asking til .it the name of the road should not be changed to EHerton road The petitioners pointed out that the road was called after an. old pior.cer, ar.d they did not think that t-he names of any roads so called should lie 'altered.' The petition waa referre l to the 'By-laws Committee. A petition from residents that the trees at Buxton's Corner should not be cut down was presented by Ct. Jameson. It was pointed, out that' tho removal of the trees would reveal the of the rubbish depot. Tiio petition was referred to the Reserves Committee. The By-laws and Finw.cu Committee reported that it could not «x> its way to £-x----empt' River road. Opawa, from the provisions of the Public Works Act.

The Electricity Department reported that til©, increased rate at which new consumera were being connected had placed a. considerable strain on meter stocks. Tho purchase of. m meters at 42s 6d each had' been approved. and the committee had authorised' tho obtainin.fr of prices for a further substantial quantity. Quotations had also been obtained for house wiring l material, and orders as follows had been approved l :—3o milss 1-18 from Lawrence and Hanson, .-6552; 5 miles 7-21J from British G.E. Co., £IC9.
