The National Electrical and Engineering Company wrote, confirming their tender for the electrio liqht plant, and their representative attended the meeting and gave further detailed information regarding present prices. The tender was confirmed'by the Council and the work will be put in hand immediately. In reply to tho Council's communication, th© UndeivSocrctary of the Public Works DePart mo nt stated that if tho local bodies concerned oould not make an amicable arrangement aa to the proportion to bo paid towards the maintenance of the Hurunui and Wainiu bridges, then it would bo necessary for it commission to be set up to inquire into the matter. The Council decided not to piw» for a commission, and to pay tho quota demanded by each controlling authority. Mr G. W. Forbes. M.P., wrote, stating that be would make a further endeavour to have a geological surveyor sent to Kaikoura to report on tho geological conditions of tho district. It was rcsolvd that tho Prime and Minister of Publio Works be inrvited to visit the district, eo that tt.ev oould see for themselves the difficulties the eottlore of tha County were labouring under. The County chairman reported having brought the question of purchasing several sections fronting the hospital under the notice of the Hospital Board, but tho latter body could not at present entertain the purchase. It was decided to acquire tho sections by publio subscription. Mr MootOj Parikawa, who had acted as water diviner, and had located water- at iakahanga. Domain, was thanked for his «ervices. The County engineer submitted an estimate of cost of reclamation work at the wharf eito, and it was decided to havo an estimate prepared for this and the shed, and a poll then be taken for o loan for the two works.
