SUMMIT ROAD.
ANNUAL MEETING OP BOARD. The animal meeting of the Summit Road Sconio Reserves Board was held on Monday. Present—Mr H. D. M. Haezard (chairman), Hon. H. F. 'Wigram, M.L.C., Dr. Chilton, and Messrs H. G. Ell, M.P., S. G. Raymond, K.C., G. Harper, F. M. "Warren, and J. S. Barrett. The animal report stated that tho area under tho control of the Board wae now 1143 mcree, part of which was leaded for grazing at an annual rental of £85 17s. The reserves, which wero all on the Fort HilteAkaroa Summit road, each possessed considerable scenio beauty, and most of them contained areas of flourishing native bush, j harbouring native bird life, that in the Kaituna Valley reserve including native pigeons.' An effort was being made to form a bridle and walking path, which, when completed, would make all tho reserves aocessib]® to the public. Only three fires had been started in tho reserves during tho past year, and little damage had beon done, one of tho fires, in the Kennedy's Bush reserve, killing outright much of the gone at an opportune time. The Board was making a continued effort to protect and encourage the growth of the native vegetation on the.different reserves. The death of the late Mr C. "W. Beid, one of the Board's keenest members, was referred to with regret in the report, which proceeded that all anxiety as to the Board's finances had been removed by a grant of £1750 from the Government, and all the liabilities had now beon wiped oS. The report was adopted., Mr F. M. Warren was accorded a vote of for his services in clearing off the liabilities on tho rest houaee at Kennedy's B >i£ S* 1 to appointed the Board's doSitrato to the Town Plamrmg Confaience in 'Wellington.
