• CHEVIOT. At (he Cheviot County Council's last meeting there were present—Messrs T. G Gee (chairman), T. Stevensoil, G. h. Rutherford L. Macfailane, J. H. L. Hiatt, C. Barnes, and J. S. Jackson. i The chairman, on behalf of the Council, welcomed Mr Leslie Macfarlane ,as -a meml>er of the Council for the Kaiwara Biding. Correspondence was received, from the Tauranga Hospital and Charitable Aid Board regarding the condition of Maori pas, andl asking the Council to co-op«rate in urging- upon the Government the desirability of bringing' about an improvement. It was resolved to support the Board in the matter. . . The Waipa. County Council wrote, asking that the Counties' Association hold a session before Parliament eitfi to make arrangements with members- of the' House' to insist'on immediate Government action' in referennce to the upkeep of -main roads, and'to suggest' . that a tax of at least 10 per cent, be leviedon all motor tyres imoortcd and the tax divided between '.he,local bodies who have to maintain' the' roads.
