It is reported Government oontrol Manila hamp trade as far as shipment concerned will be abolished not later than end of Maroh. New Zealand, spot demand is good, shipment April-June offered £55. Advice has been received in Christchurch that the London wool sales open on April 2nd, when 80,000 bales of Government wool will be offered. PRICE OF FLOUR. Yesterday afternoon, Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held a sale of leases of Canterbury College reaervea, situated at "Waikari. Mr W. H. Turner obtained -the lease of lot 1, 254 acres, at 23s 6d per acre per annum, and Mr McPherson, the present holder, obtained lot 2, 174 acres, at 21a OJ per acre. A sale ol land at Tai Tapu was held on behalf of Mr C. H. Ensor. A block of 48 acres, with house and buildings, went to J. Coakley, at £96 10s per acre, and the other block of 55 acres was sold at £75 per acre to Mrs McDrury. Messrs Jones, McCrostie Co., Ltd., sold at their land ealo rooms last night a number of North Beach sections situated just above Beach road, on and adjoining the sea front. DUNEDIN, March 12. At Burnsido 233 fat cattle were yarded. The quality wae fair, there being only a few pens of prime heavy bullocks for--1 ward. Extra prime bullocks. mttde £22 to £23 10s, prime £18 to £21, medium £16 to £17- 103, prime heifers £15 15s, medium £13 to £14 10s, light £9 and upwards. Sheep—2749 were penned. The quality waa medium. Competition wae fairly good, but prices declined Is 6d to 2e per head for prime heavy wethers. Medium and light sold at late rates. Prime heavy wethers made 465, medium 40s, light 26s and upwards, prime ewes 398, medium 33s 6d, light and aged 21s and upwards. Lambs —1080 were penned, realising up to 32s 3d under keen competition. Figs—A good yarding sold at late rates under keen competition. FISH AND OYSTEES. THE DUNEDIN MARKET. (special to "the press.") DUNEDIN, March 12. At a meeting of Dunedin fishmongers, a resolution was carried protecting against the unsatisfactory condition of the Bhiff oysters. A motion carried was to the effect that the fishmongers will ccase accepting these oysters till they arrive in better condition, say for one month. It vra3 etated that the oysters were often half dead, and a third undersized, and that there was too large a proportion of empty sheila. Fish is very scarce in Dunedin. The boats are going out. but finding not much to catch. This morning at the auction market one dealer paid 38s for 34 Ted cod, up to 14s a dozen fair barracouta, Is 9d per lb for ling, and 7a per dozen for big flounders. PRICE OF APPLES. "Nelson apples oannot be placed on the Wellington market to-day for less than 3s 9d per case," stated Mr A. Leigh Hunt' at Monday's meeting of the Council of th© Central Chamber of Commerce, when the price of fruit was under discussion. In answer to a question, he stated that the auia lie hud referred to went in harvesting, grading, packing, freight, andsimilar charges. OUTPUT OF WOOLLEN MILLS. Tuesday's "Southland Times" states: — There is a rumour in circulation to the effect that four of tho large South Island woollen mills have decided to divert all their output to the retail houses. Enquiries made amongst the managers of the local wholesale and retail soft-goods businesses fail to 1 substantiate the report, 'all stating that r.o [ such step is known to them. CLEARING SALE.
