WHITE PINE TIMBER.
RESTRICTIONS UPON EXPORT
(SPECIAL TO "THE VTIX&S.")
WELLINGTON, December 17. As soon as the Board of Trade csn afford the time, some attention will b® given to the regulations regarding the trade in white pine timber. There has been an agitation rocentlv for permission to export in largor quantities, but it is r-9t at all likely that this permission will be given. The more urgent question is as to.the prices for this timber. The 'KJazette prices were based on the ruling rates for timber three months ago, and it will I>o for the Board to consider whether the prices of white pine should not bs allowed to ris3 in sympathy with those for other timbers'. When the Board meets the sawmiUers. it is likely that the export question will be raised, but the restrictions have been imposed as part of the Government policy, and even although the restriction of export may have seriously interfered with the business of certain millers, there is httlo probability of the restrictions being withdrawn.
