NE*W ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Council of the • New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association ' was continued last night. Present Messrs W E D. Bishop (president), J. R. Buchanan : (Nelaoh), C. C. Bryant (Wanganui), H. McD. Vincent (Hawke's Bay), B. 0 Neill 0\ elling- ' ton), C. Atkinson (Canterbury). A. R. bruiisden (Auckland), and F. C. Fantham (West- ■_ rules of the newly-formed swimming • club under tho auspices of the Boys' High • School .Old Boys' Association were approved, • with a minor amendment, and the club s ■ affiliation with the Association was sanctioned. ' Tho hon. secretary, Mr B. 0 Neill, aubl mitted a report,on.the condition of tho Westi land Centre. Ho had received information, he said; that : Mr' Heslop, secretary of tho "Westland Centre, had gone to camp, and the Centro had for the tinie being la-peed. His (Mr O'Neill's) efforts to ascertain the position of the Centre by correspondence had met with no xesponse from any Westland town except Greymouth, wliere Mr H. Bowman had done his best to assist the Council. From him ho had. learned that the Centre had ceased to exist, and it ,\was 'not known who held the booka and property of the Centre, or whether there were „any funds. It seemed'that for" some .years past a regrettable policy of laxity in oonnexion with the Centre had been permitted- to exist, and conditions had gone from bad to worse. While tho Centre as a swi riming force existed in the practical activity of its clubs, it was quit© extinct is an administrative body. Greymouth was tho only town where there appeared to exist any inclination to work in resuscitating the Centre, and he suggested that the Centre j • authority be handed over to this town. Mr j O'Neill's report contained a considerable amount of further information, disclosing what he termed a deplorable state of affaire in cdnnexion with tho Reefton Centro. Subsequently he moved several motions, as the result 'of which, it was docided:— "That the Westland Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A., as heretofore existing at Reefton, on account of non-fulfilment of obligations, be declared to cease to exist; that Mr H. Bowman, of Greymouth, hon. secretary of the Greytmmth Amateur Swimming 'Aosociivtion, be appointed to act on behalf of the Council in taking steps to have the Centre reconstructed; that the Council direct that all papers and property of the late Westland Centre shall be handed to Mr Bowman, together with information relating to tho 'ate Centre." .Mr Fantham deplored the developments in connexion with the Reefton Centre, but explained his inability to do more than he had in connexion therewith, and said that lie hoped and believed that the Association's affairs in Westland would soon prosper. | On tho motion of the treasurer (Mr Vin- | acnty it was-decided to extend the time for 1 payment of affiliation feee until the end of ' February; that £50 bo transferred from the | Overseas Representatives Fund to the Education account; and that tho sum of £25 be transferred from the same fund to the general .account. It was decided to record on the minutes that this action was taken with the understanding that when opportunity occurred these moneys would be repaid to the respective funds. ■ Mr Atkinson xnored that a sub-Committee, ooneietihg of Messrs O'Neill and Brunsden, be set up to go into the question of amateur records. The motion was carried, and the mover added to the sub-committee. Mr Atkinson said that he would like to ee-j added to the rule relating to the breast-

stroke that a competitor may turn his bead to one side, providing that the alignment of the body is not altered, without disqualification. It. wae decided to depute the abovementioned Bub-committee to report on th« matter. The suspension of the Hokitika Club was, on the motion of Mr Brunsden, removed.
