Tift newspaper "Merchant Service Re,view," in recalling Mr Winston Churchill's statement, "We were within , o\A ace of the greatest victory at (the Dardanelles the world: has ever seen," says that the cargo steamer Freshfield was sent with water for the troops landing at Suvla Bay. When she arrived somebody told the captain to clear out, as ho was not wanted. The captain obeyed, and returned to Mudros. Tho troops landed, and wandered on ■the Peninsula, hetwfifen the Turks and Constantinople. They saw tho Dardanelles, but in the blazing sun they could net advance without water, as they were pa relied with thirst, and they wero obliged to withdraw.
