Kirk, of Victoria College-, Wellington, presented the Hector Memorial, Medal, on behalf of the Council of the New Zealand Institute, j to Dr. Chns. It was in memory of a great scientist, thelate Sir .Tamos Hector, and be felt that he could not present it to a more worthy worker. (Applause.) Dr. Chilton briery replied, and sa:d that though the work itself was sufficient reward, lie was proud to be the recipient of the honour, particularly as he i'elt it'would encourage younger workers to strive to gain it.
