THE CHILDREN OF BELGIUM.
A CHRISTMAS APPEAL.
Some little time aco the Lord Mayor of London, acting for the authorities in London who are charged with maintaining the work of raising funds for the relief of the unhappy people of Belgium, sent out a circular letter asking for co-operation in a plan to raise a special Christmas fund for tho mitigation of the unhappincss of the children in Belgium. This appeal has been heard, and steps are being taken to raise money by tho various bodies concerned with Belgian relief. The executive of tho local Belgium Relief Fund is taking active steps to secure that Canterbury shall make a good showing in a cause' which is very appropriate to the present season. Wo have opened a subscription list, and every contribution sent in to "The Press" office will be acknowledged. Barker ... „ 2 10 0 Mrs Grey ... 5 0 0 Total to date _ £236 11 8 The secretary of the Belgium Fund has written to the head teacher of every school in Canterbury, also to the chairman of each School Committee, asking them to co-operate in the appeal on behalf of the Belgian children. Mr W. C. Sewell has given two gross of Belgian badges for the street collection. The churches have also been asked assist, bv making the appeal known. The secretary has received from the Mayor of Christchurch the following donations for the Children's Fund: — Collected at the late Rev. F. W. Isitt's memorial service £4 ss, O H. Holland £1 Is.
