Tho Stunner Borough ~ Council met last night. Present —Councillor. J. Barr, W. J. Lawson, G.-W. C.. .Smithaan, A. E. Rankin, T. E. Whitfield, and H. F. - Roberts. In tho abeenoo of the Mayor. Councillor Smithson was voted to the chair The financial statement - showed that the receipts for tbo month amounted to £586 19s 6d, and "payments'to £621--7s lid. The district fund account was in debit £33G0 ICte -id. Tho dog registration feis for the year IS>l7 were fixed as follows: —Dogs kept eolcly for ; the purpose of herding or driving eheep or cattioj 2s 6d; other dogs, 10s. j It waa decided to close the Town Clerk's I office from December 25tli to January 2nd ! (inclusive), and to hold tho next Council meeting on the second Tuesday in January. /| Tho Works Committee reported that tbo j ga's manufactured for the month of October j waa 420,600 cubic feet, as against 357,300 for i tho corresponding month, last year; 041 tone of coal wore used, giving a return of 12.197 j cubio feet of gas per ton of coal. Owing to the want of storage for-ooal at the gasworks, it waa decided to erect a 'building for that ■purpose at an estimated cost of £60. It was reported that there were about 2300 gallons of tar in stock, and thia was being increased at the rate of 300 gallons per month. It was decided to sell 1500 gallons which were not required for 6troet work. I-t was decided not to extend at present tbo water 6ystem to .McCormack'a. It was agreed to grant the Fire Brigade a subsidy of £15 per year, to bo need to pay the ordinary running expenses of tho brigade, and that all expenses in connexion with the plant be paid by tic Council: that all orders for plant." repairs, and additions bo gixen by the Town Clerk, and that no member of tho brigado 6hall have authority to incur any cxpenso to be mot by tho Council. It was also agreod to add the following to tho firet superintendent's duties:—He shall attend to tbo drying of all hose, and shall periodically inspect all water plugs in the borough. Tho supplementary Toll was submitted and approved. It was decided to tako the report on the dutice of tire Council's offioem at tho next mooting. Mr D. Coleman waited on the Council asking for assistance with regard to making a roadway into his property at Taylor's Mistake. The position of the boundaries was discussed and a probable entranoo to the property obtained from the plane. Dealing with the probab'o nerd of an increased supply of water, Councillor J. B»rr stated, that so much success had attend-xi tho pumping of water direct from tbo pipea that it was probable raorc would be treated in the same way and an extra euppiy br this means secured.
