MEET! NO 01'' HOARD OF GOVERNORS. Tho iiionihlv meeting of tho liangior» Uigh School Board was held lust evening. Mr It. Ball presided, and there were also present—Messrs H. l*oyd. \\ . A. Hanks. C. I. Jennings, and J. Marshall. Mr T. 11. Cresswell, the principal, also attended. The Australasian Students' Christia.ii "Union was granted the use of the Technical School for its annual conference. The Napier High School Board uroto expressing tho opinion that the annual examination should be commenced later than the middle of November, thereby making it possible for the summer vacation to begin immediately before Christmas, and •to bo continued until about tho middle of February, covering the hottest period of tlio summer A motion expressing sympathy with tho pr<>posal that the examination should be ]atcr was passed, but it was thought) that the date and duration of the Jiojidays should be governed by local conditions. , Thp principal, in his report, stated that tho school work had gone on smoothly, and a satisfactory year's programme had been carried out. _ Fiftyfour pupils had entered lor tho different examinations, the number being well[ nf to tho average of previous years. Tht Education Department liad announced that in futuro pupils holding frco railway passes would be allowed to use them on Saturdays in order to take "part in school games, rifle-shooting, etc. Tho Department was proposing a schemc of bursaries for tho training of lads to become agricultural experts, and by request ho had recommended the following three pupils as candidates: —15. Hawker, D. Crichton. and J. Scott. It being tho last mooting of the year, ho wished once more to thank tho members of the Board for tho interest they had taken in tho school, :md the consideration they liad extended on all occasions to tho staff. It was decided to send a letter to tho Board of Governors of the Lincoln Agricultural College, drawing attention ti> tho desirability of protesting against all tlio agricultural bursaries being • given to tho AVeraroa College, in tho North Island. It was announced that tho annual breaking-up ceremony would bo held on Friday afternoon. It was decided to extend tho school holidays until February 12th. to permit tho country pupils helping with tho •harvest.
A motion of appreciation of tho services of tho tcocliing staff during thu year was passed. The treasurer's statement showed receipts £156 13s Bd, and cxpondituro £134 2s 4d. leaving a total credit balance of £406 5s 4d.
